DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Electricity has been a subject of scientific & commercial interest of industries since centuries and hence is considered as one of the core branch of engineering. The students are taught to design, analyze, implement and operate electrical and electronics systems efficiently, thus opening the doors to new challenges. In this aspect the students are given in-depth knowledge in Machines, Power Systems, Control System, Signal Processing Drives, Power Electronics Microprocessors and Switched Mode Power Supplies. To impart this we have well qualified experienced and dedicated staff in the department.

In our endeavor to popularize the field Mumbai university has included in Its curriculum subjects like Design and Estimation of Electrical Systems, High Voltage DC Transmission System, Analysis and Design of Switched Mode Converters, Illumination Engineering, Project Management, Computer Application in Power System, Analog and Digital Circuits and Microprocessors which are the fastest developing fields. Project Management a subject in the final year, helps the students analyze and implement Tools and Techniques in handling projects efficiently and to become a good Project Managers.

This course develops an ability in the student to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering, also to design and conduct experiments and to analyze and interpret data. Course also develops skill to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within.

This course also ensures following :

  • Realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
  • An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  • An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  • The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global. economic, environmental, and societal context.
  • A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in lifelong learning.
  • H. A knowledge of contemporary issues, and an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.

Electrical Engineering course has the following specific outcomes :

  • An ability to demonstrate knowledge, technical skills and problem solving techniques in power system design and analysis.
  • An ability to design, verify, operate and analyze control systems and electrical drives.

Business Opportunites

Engineers study how system work together and design ways for such system to be stronger better or more efficient. If anyone want to start business, it is essential to have an engineering license.

Green Consulting Business

When we pair our electrical engineering license with a leadership in energy and environmental design, we can start a green ( i.e. green related business that performs energy audit). Energy audit helps whom and business owner find ways to improve energy efficiency by conducting evaluation of energy consumption and suggesting green retrofits. Retrofits can include the installation of solar panels, residential power, generating windmills, programmable thermostats and energy efficient appliances.

Research & Development

Use our advance knowledge in circuitry to test and create products with our own research and development firm that we can use to sell our own ideas for companies. Items can include green building product, machinery control, navigation system, communication system, wiring system and lighting.

Maintenance And Repair

Electrical Engineers develop the circuitry inside electronic equipment and vehicles and this knowledge can serve others who require maintenance and repair.

Printed Circuit Boards

One of the most important components within an electronic product is the circuit board. By using our skills; we can design and sell printed circuit board to manufacturing companies, construction firms, and engineering firms that do not specialize in electrical engineering.

What Next after each course completion

1. Electrical Engineers are developing clean and efficient renewable energy and electric/hybrid vehicles to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and to reduce our Carbon dioxide emissions.

2. Electrical Engineers are replacing our aging and inefficient power distribution system with a revolutionary new smart grid.

3. Basically Design management and Auditing of Electrical System gives conceptual understanding of design of electrical system, their management and auditing procedure.

4. Basically electric drives cover the fundamentals and their control through knowledge of electrical machines and power electronics. The course covers basics, dynamics, selection, braking and control of AC DC drives.

5. Power System Planning and Reliability impart us the different power system planning/forecasting Techniques and Reliability evaluation in terms of basic reliability indices.

6. Electrical Machine Design involves the design of electrical machine as per ISI specifications emphasizing on materials used along with the design of energy efficient motor and preparing the design drawings of electrical machines.

7. Power system operation and control gives us the knowledge of dimensions and discuss a number of engineering and economic aspects relating to power system operation and control.

8. High voltage DC power transmission is relatively a new technology. The invention of thyristor valves and related technological improvements made wide growth of HVDC system. The HVDC technology is still undergoing many changes due to continuing innovation directed at improving reliability and reducing cost of converter.

9. Control System gives us the basic knowledge of controller and classical method of controller design as well as modern control system design, foundation of automation is also done through this course.

10. The main objective of high voltage engineering is to know the fundamentals of high voltage laboratory techniques, to provide and understanding of high voltage phenomenon and to present the basic of high voltage insulation design and testing together with the analytical and modern numerical tool available to high voltage equipment designers.
